Jason Bruns is the Director of the Minnesota State Engineering Center of Excellence. He received his B.S from the University of Minnesota, Institute of Technology in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration from Minnesota State University Mankato. He spent 20+ years in industry successfully serving in engineering, operations, and manufacturing leadership roles at various companies including GE. Mr. Bruns now directs the Center activities as it pertains to engineering education, industry connections, and program collaborations. He enjoys spending time with his wife and his four daughters, along with their youth social events.

Jim is the Program Director of Post-Secondary Success and has supported educational initiatives such as Project Lead The Way, Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) Advanced Careers, and other K-12 outreach activities in Minnesota. Jim is a 1976 graduate of Minnesota State University Mankato in Trades and Industry Vocational Education. Jim has worked in education since 1975 when he began as a teacher-aid in a construction career. Jim has worked as a teacher; special needs support facilitator, administrator and the Minnesota Department of education prior to coming to the Center in June 2016. Jim believes the students are our future and our future is most bright.

Serena Miller

Serena is an undergraduate student at Minnesota State University, Mankato. She plans on graduating in the year 2020 with a bachelors degree in psychology. After graduation, she plans on continuing her education further with graduate studies. She has a drive to cultivate interest in the STEM field in young women who may have never considered it. Serena’s personal interests include watching films, hiking and reading books.

Abrielle is a college sophomore studying ecology at Minnesota State University, Mankato. This is her second year helping with STEM outreach programs and she is eager to become involved with this years events. In her free time, Abrielle enjoys coffee, reading, and competing nationally with her American Shetland Ponies.
